About Me
Hi there, my name is Ryan Moore and I am from Busselton, Western Australia. I now live in Brisbane, Queensland with my miniature dachshunds, Willow & Hazel. I completed my Bachelor of Nursing at the university of Notre Dame in 2013, then I moved to the Southwest. After working as a ward nurse for several years I decided to change vocation by working as a YouthCARE school chaplain at Dunsborough Primary School, then later Busselton Senior High School.
It was as a school chaplain that I was able to meet the many dedicated and enthusiastic teachers that inspired me to take up a teaching career. I am grateful for the opportunity to work in those schools over the three years as it shaped me into being the highly empathetic and understanding teacher I am today. A quote which sums up my philosophy for teaching is, “Each student must know how much the teacher cares, before they can care how much the teacher knows.” I am passionate about creating a culture of care within the classroom; wherein students can explore, create and grow to reach new and yet-to-be discovered potentials. |
Teaching Pedagogy
I firmly believe that all children learn best when they feel safe in their learning environment and think positively about themselves. I aim to provide learning opportunities that address each child’s individual learning needs so that they can achieve success, while also experiencing challenge.
Using an inquiry-based approach to teaching, I differentiate the curriculum to cater for the varied learning needs of students in the class and by explicitly teaching and modelling positive behaviours and social skills. Using Kagan's cooperative learning structures, I encourage students to take responsibility for their own learning and the choices they make within our class and school environment. The way students process information will vary depending on the subject being taught and according to their preferred learning style. For example, when learning a new mathematical concept, a student may require hands-on materials to manipulate before they can understand and apply the theoretical concept further. |

A 21st century classroom should be adaptive to students’ needs and this is why seating arrangements will change often and multiple ‘learning spaces’ are adopted in our classroom. Learning spaces is the ‘current mode’ that the class is in and will either be Campfire, Water Hole, Mountain Top or Cave. Each learning space serves a specific purpose and as a class we will move from space to space throughout the day, ensuring our time together is well-utilised.
